For the second year in a row, Bethel Park Police Department has received the AAA Platinum Award for Community Traffic Safety. Municipal Manager Laurence Christian was honored to attend the award ceremony on Monday, November 4th in Cranberry Township at the Pittsburgh Marriott North. A tremendous honor for our hardworking Traffic Division as this is the second year in a row for Platinum status with two previous years (2016/2017) as Gold status.
Receiving the award for the department was Traffic Division Police Officer Andrew Volchko (pictured below).
AAA East Central honored a Platinum Award to law enforcement departments that proved success in their outstanding dedication to traffic safety initiatives and for keeping the local region’s roadways safer for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
What many people do not know, however, is that AAA uses a specific set of qualifying metrics for determining what departments receive their Community Traffic Safety Awards. The Bethel Park Police Department reviews traffic data that is gathered routinely using traffic monitoring devices, crash data collection devices, and aggressive driving enforcement. The department also participates in an Aggressive Driving Enforcement Grant Program in which the past year alone has yielded numerous citations, including an arrest for a drug related incident during a traffic stop.
