Sock Drive Running April 11 – 25

The Bethel Park Police Department’s K-9 unit, otherwise known as ‘K9 Jeez,’ is partnering with a local charity to bring some relief to the greater Pittsburgh area homeless. The 6-year-old Belgian Malinois, handled by Officer Drew Jacobs, is helping ‘Socks With A Mission’ to collect socks for those in shelters and on the streets during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officer Drew Jacobs came up with the idea for Jeez to help the Pittsburgh community. “Jeez is so well cared for, and so many people out there are struggling right now. We knew Jeez would want to help. He puts his life on the line to help keep our community safe, so this opportunity is something he can have fun with.”

The Department and K9 Jeez are holding a sock drive from Sunday, April 11 –  April 25 with drop offs at:

  • The Bethel Park Police Department
  • Bethel Park Community Center
  • Evey True Value Hardware
  • No Cook Tuesday Food Truck Events at the Bethel Park Community Center (April 13 & 20)

K9 Jeez and Officer Jacobs are helping with publicity by posting on Bethel Park Police Department social media, where Jeez has a big following.  K9 Jeez loves interacting with the community and is excited to work together to help Socks With A Mission.

Socks With A Mission, a local charity founded by 11-year-old Audrey Wetterau, is thrilled to have the Department’s and Jeez’s support.

“We’ve distributed almost 9,000 pair of socks so far in 2021. The pandemic has made so many financially insecure, with the result of more families without homes. The Bethel Park Police Department and K9 Jeez are going to help us reach so many more people in the area who are struggling right now to secure basic necessities. We’re just so grateful for their support,” said Amy Wetterau, Audrey’s mom and the administrator for the charity.

Founder Audrey was grateful as well. “It was so much fun meeting Jeez, and working with him to help others. He’s got a huge heart.”
