Updated Trash/Recycling Art - Website2024 Trash & Recycling Updates

Beginning Jan. 1, 2024, Bethel Park will have a new contract with Trash & Recycling provider, Waste Management (moving to full automation in 2024).  We entered into the agreement along with other South Hills communities through the South Hills Area Council of Governments (SHACOG).

While costs have gone up, we worked hard to get the best contract possible for our residents and were able to negotiate the use of TWO trash carts rather than one, as well as the addition of glass recycling.

What are the 2024 Trash & Recycling changes?

  • Starting Jan. 1, all trash and recycling MUST be placed in a cart for pickup. Items not in carts will not be picked up.
  • Residential homes are eligible for two trash carts and one 96-gallon recycling cart. New automated recycling carts will be delivered mid-April 2024.  One trash cart was provided to each residence within the Municipality and should remain with the property.  If you find there is not one with your home, please contact your realtor to contact the previous owner.  The original cart is owned by the Municipality and must remain with the home.  You can purchase a second trash cart through your local home improvement/hardware store (must be compatible with mechanical lifters); the Municipality also has a limited number available for purchase (for a second cart only).
  • Glass recycling is now included!  Beginning in January you can include glass in your new recycling cart.  Recycling will be collected bi-weekly.
  • Bulk pickup will be scheduled the first FULL week of each month.  You are allowed two bulk items per pickup. Allowable bulk items remain the same.  In 2024, if you have an urgent need for bulk item pickup outside of the specified week, you can call Waste Management to schedule special pickup for a fee (from Waste Management).
